Wynn Al Marjan Island: How the UAE’s First Licensed Casino Resort Is Reshaping Ras Al Khaimah Tourism

Wynn Al Marjan Island is changing Ras Al Khaimah’s tourism model before its planned September 2027 opening. The resort received the UAE’s first commercial gaming facility operator licence in 2024, adding regulated gaming to an emirate already known for beaches, mountain tourism and luxury hotels.

Why Wynn Al Marjan Island Matters for Tourism

The project is being developed by Wynn Resorts with Marjan and RAK Hospitality Holding. It combines accommodation, dining, retail, entertainment, events, wellness and gaming, giving Ras Al Khaimah a major attraction designed for longer stays and higher-value international tourism.

Guests may spend much of their time enjoying the resort, restaurants and other local attractions, but online entertainment can also be part of a quiet evening in their room. For example, Way casino is an online casino with a broad selection of games, giving players another option when they prefer to play online rather than visit a physical casino.

Current plans include about 1,530 rooms and suites, 22 restaurants, lounges and bars, a theatre, beach facilities, pools, a spa and retail areas. This mix broadens the resort beyond gaming and gives Ras Al Khaimah a stronger offer for leisure travellers, events and short luxury breaks.

A New Regulatory Landmark for the UAE

The licence is important because it created the first authorised commercial gaming facility of its kind in the UAE. The General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority oversees commercial gaming at federal level, while unlicensed operations remain prohibited.

This allows Ras Al Khaimah to add a new tourism category without treating casino activity as unrestricted. Gaming is only one part of a larger resort built around hospitality, entertainment, dining and events.

The project is no longer an early proposal. The resort tower topped out in December 2025, and construction continued through 2026. Official tourism updates still place the opening in 2027.

How the Resort Is Influencing Wider Development

Wynn’s effect can already be seen beyond its own site. Marjan links the development with new hospitality, property and infrastructure investment, while Ras Al Khaimah continues to improve transport connections around its expanding tourism districts.

The timing supports a broader growth plan. Ras Al Khaimah welcomed more than 670,000 visitors in the first half of 2026, its strongest first-half result on record, while the emirate is working towards 3.5 million annual visitors by 2030.

A resort combining gaming, theatre, premium dining, retail and meetings can attract different visitor groups throughout the year. This may help Ras Al Khaimah reduce its dependence on a single type of beach holiday and strengthen its position as a year-round destination.

What the 2027 Opening Could Change

Wynn Al Marjan Island is arriving alongside new hotels, resort upgrades and transport projects. Together, these developments can encourage visitors to stay longer instead of treating Ras Al Khaimah mainly as an addition to a Dubai trip.

The resort may also raise expectations for dining, entertainment and event facilities across the emirate. Other hotels and developers will have a stronger reason to improve their own offers as visitor numbers and international interest grow.

By 2026, Wynn is already influencing Ras Al Khaimah’s tourism architecture. Its long-term effect will depend on demand after opening, but the project has clearly increased the emirate’s hospitality scale, regulatory significance and investment profile.
