The castle was owned by the Counts of Bronkhorst-Batenburg in the 12th century. The dynasty lived here for over two centuries. Later the castle came under the ownership of the princes von Salm-Salm. Today, Anhalt Castle is an important historical and cultural monument in Germany and a popular landmark.
